Innovative Technology Developed

The objective of the High Performance Brush Technology (HPBT) Program is to develop electrical metal fiber brushes that are to become part of an equipment alteration kit for submarine electrical motor?generator sets. This US Navy sponsored development project effort calls for designing high performance brushes, modifying the brush holders (hereafter called brush systems) and rotor surfaces, and conducting smaller laboratory, larger land?based, and at?sea equipment tests with the metal fiber brushes installed. These tests will retire the technical risk associated with these brushes, and provide the necessary justification for shipboard installation of the HPBT based on the criterion of no demonstrated degradation in motor and generator performance, The high performance brushes will be tested in land?based and Shipboard 500 kW Ship's Service Motor Generator (SSMG) sets on LOS ANGELES Class submarines, High Performance brushes can be used for both back?fit and forward?fit applications and are also applicable to a broad spectrum of systems and platforms.

DoD Implementation and Commercialization Summary

Noesis, Inc. is currently engaged in the development of enhanced metal fiber electrical brushes that significantly improve the operating efficiencies of electrical systems and drastically reduce the requirements for costly periodic maintenance. The features, advantages and benefits associated with our high performance brush technology (HPBT) include the following:

The Noesis vision is to design and then develop, through licensing agreements and/or manufacture, advanced electrical commutating and slip ring brushes that will significantly enhance the operating efficiencies of a wide range of electrical motors and generation systems. While there are many high technology applications in the federal marketplace, the number of these applications pale in comparison to the potential commercial requirement for high performance brush systems.
