Advanced Acoustic Concepts Inc. (AAC) is a leading supplier of Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) automated, real time multi processing systems for government and commercial customers. Since inception in 1989, AAC has performed as a prime contractor to the United States Navy as well as a supplier to General Dynamic-Electric Boat, IBM, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and L3 Communication. AAC is a technical leader of sonar detection, torpedo defense technology, advanced distributed training, knowledge management systems, software engineering and systems integration. AAC has been selected by the United States Navy as a lead contractor for the Surface Ship Torpedo Defense program.
The Full Band Acoustic Localization Processing provides an enhanced self defense capability for Navy submarines. It allows the U S Navy to carry out shallow water anti-submarine warfare (ASW) against quiet submarines. The technology developed under this SBIR could also be applied to other related acoustics sensor/processing applications, such as acoustic imaging, seismic signal processing systems, and bird monitoring systems of airport runways.
AAC continues to develop the USW Self Defense solution, which consists of the Torpedo Detection, Classification and Localization (TDCL) and the Compact Variable Depth Sonar (CVDS) that consists of a High Power source and an Advanced Acoustic Intercept (AACI) array. The sensor system is being developed as an integrated towed array configuration of the Torpedo Defense System (TDS). This system is being tailored to integrate into Surface Vessels of the USN including carriers, amphibious assault, and logistics support ships. The number of employees has grown over seven times since 1997, since AAC's early SBIR work with the Navy.
