Company Background

IC Tech, founded in 1993, develops hardware and software systems for natural means of human-machine interaction. Its current focus is on audio and visual inputs to computers and communication devices. Technologies under development at IC Tech augment the capabilities of ordinary microphones and cameras with innovative computing techniques inspired by the workings of the eye, ear, and the brain. IC Tech is an active participant in commercial and governmental research and development projects. IC Tech is a privately held corporation.

Innovative Technology Developed

IC Tech started developing the signal separation and enhancement technology in response to a 1997 SBIR MDA topic. The technology has multiple applications in enhancing both human-to-human and human-to-machine voice communications. Commercially called Clear Voice Capture (CVC)™, the technology is marketed as a software module for multiple platforms. Demonstrated in a car under differing noise conditions, CVC improved the precision of speech recognition by 35 to 40% as compared to conventional systems. Additionally, the size and cost is much less than competitors.

DoD Implementation and Commercialization Summary

In 1998, a spin off company, Clarity Technologies, Inc., was created with investment from the commercial sector, and commercial rights of the technologies developed under the SBIR program was transferred to it. Clarity Technologies, Inc. has been acquired in March 2005 for $17.1 million in cash by Cambridge Silicon Radio (CSR) of Cambridge, UK, a wireless solutions provider and leading supplier of Bluetooth technology.
