Company Background

Founded in 1959, Mathtech, Inc. provides systems development and integration services, analytical defense solutions and advanced communications systems to federal government agencies. With a professional and engineering staff of 65 people, we specialize in IT, systems design and integration and program management. Mathtech is an employee-owned firm.

Innovative Technology Developed

Mathtech developed a digital Inter-Communications System (ICS) for the Naval Air Systems Command that is significantly smaller, lighter and less expensive than formerly available ICSs. The ICS is an embedded PC-based system running real-time voice over a dual, 10Base2 Ethernet or Fibre Channel Local Area Network (LAN). The system uses one unit, the CREWCOMM, to provide both crew and communications interfaces. This technology offers a distributed digital approach. Currently, Mathtech is developing a wireless interface capability to its ICS. Although the system was initially developed for a retrofit to the U. S. Navy E-2C Hawkeye aircraft, the equipment can be easily adapted to any other multi-place aircraft platform, including the C-2, the P-3, the Joint Mission aircraft and the Air Force.

DoD Implementation and Commercialization Summary

Mathtech's Communications Systems Group designs and produces intercom systems for the U.S. Navy's E-2 aircraft community. Mathtech has been awarded a large, four-year contract with Northrop Grumman Corporation for this design and development effort and also has been awarded a contract to design six to eight prototype inter-communications systems. Their team is currently designing similar systems that could be used to retrofit the existing E2-C fleet of 35 aircraft and the C-2.
